CAMPUS SUMMARY
The Chelsea Campus of Bunker Hill Community College

Established in 1987, the Bunker Hill Community College Chelsea Campus plays a key role in the social and economic development of the greater Chelsea area. The campus provides the opportunity for higher education and job training to residents of Chelsea, Revere, Everett, East Boston, Malden and Winthrop. In January 1998, the Chelsea Campus moved to its new location in Bellingham Square. This state-of-the-art, three-story facility has allowed the college to expand its courses and programs. Comprehensive student services are provided to students who enroll at the Chelsea Campus. Prospective students may come directly to the Chelsea Campus to apply to the college and to complete the enrollment process including registering for classes.

The Chelsea Campus provides both day and evening classes, ranging from general education, criminal justice, early childhood development, computer technology, accounting, travel and tourism, and English as a Second Language to programs in allied health, surgical technology, and a sterile processing and distribution management. Non-credit and certificate programs are also offered including several computer and information technology courses. Our campus brochure outlines the course and certificate offerings for the current semester. Among the various non-credit programs, the Chelsea Campus offers Microsoft Office Users Specialist (MOUS) certification, the globally recognized standard for validating expertise with the Microsoft Office suite of business productivity programs. MOUS provides benefits to individuals, businesses, academic institutions, staffing agencies, IT training centers and government organizations. Call the campus for information on certification testing at (617) 228-2101.

The Adult Basic Education Program is grant funded by the Massachusetts Department of Education and offers free classes at both the Charlestown and Chelsea Campuses. At the Chelsea Campus, the program offers basic education classes through a collaborative partnership with three community-based organizations: Centro Latino de Chelsea, Chelsea Human Services Collaborative (CHSC), and Roca, Inc.

Basic English to Speakers of Other Languages (BESOL), Spanish Native Language Literacy and GED in Spanish are offered both day and evening at the college’s Chelsea Campus, Centro Latino de Chelsea, and Roca, Inc. with supplemental tutoring provided by the Chelsea Community Volunteer Center. The Transitional Pathways to College Project is located at the college’s Charlestown Campus. This project is directed toward GED recipients who want to transition into higher education. Classes in Developmental Mathematics, Development English, and Transitions to College are offered during the day and evening.

The Chelsea Campus is easily accessible. A bus stop is located directly outside the campus, and shuttle service is provided from the Charlestown Campus to the Chelsea Campus for the convenience of students who enroll at both campuses. In addition to on-street parking around Bellingham Square, the Chelsea Campus offers students free parking at the Logan Park and Go parking lot located at 111 Eastern Avenue. The college shuttle transports students between the Park and Go and the Chelsea Campus on an hourly schedule designed to accommodate students’ class schedules.
