Founded in 1880, Emerson is one of the premiere colleges in the United States for the study of communication and the performing arts. Students may choose from more than twenty undergraduate majors and twelve graduate programs supported by state-of-the-art facilities and a world-reknown faculty. The campus is home to WERS 88.9 FM, the oldest non-commercial radio station in New England, the Emerson Majestic Theatre, a major venue in Boston's Theatre District hosting dance, drama, and music, and Ploughshares, the award winning journal of contemporary literature. |

Located on Boston Common in the heart of the Theatre District, Emerson's campus is within walking distance of the Massachusetts Statehouse, the historic Freedom Trail, Newbury Street shops, the financial district of the city, and numerous restaurants and museums. There are more than fifty student organizations and performance groups, ten intercollegiate sports, five student publications, and multiple professional and academic honor societies. Hundreds of internships exist throughout Boston and in major cities across the United States, including exclusive placements through Emerson's program in Los Angeles. Emerson also sponsors a study abroad at Kasteel Well in the Netherlands, summer film study in Prague, and course cross-registration within the six-member Boston ProArts Consortium.
