| CAMPUS SUMMARY |
 |
Founded in 1945, Berklee College of Music has been the premier school for aspiring professional musicians for over half a century because we believe in helping our students define and refine their artistry while building practical and professional skills.
Our innovative, experiential approach to music education was the first to bring jazz - and later rock, pop, rhythm & blues, country, hip-hop, and world music - into a classroom setting and the first to prepare students for the realities of a life in music. Our curriculum, which also encompasses non-performance areas of study such as music business, production and engineering, film scoring, and music therapy; and our facilities, which include multiple recording studios, performance venues, practice spaces and media/tech labs, are geared to give our students a practicial and creative foundation and to prepare our students to be active participants in the world of music they are entering.
More than 3,800 students and over 470 faculty members interact in this environment that provides the most complete and comprehensive learning experience possible. And, at Berklee, we know that there is a world of difference between knowing what to do and doing it - onstage, in the studio, or anywhere outside the classroom. That's why so many of our classrooms are studios, stages, film-scoring labs, or music composition workstations - to give our students opportunitites to build, not just knowledge, but experience.
Berklee's curriculum mirrors the evolving landscape of contemporary music. Whether it is the opportunity to study any of the diverse musical genres in contemporary music or to develope the technical and business skills required to thrive in the music industry, Berklee is focused on preparing our students for sustainable, professional careers in music. |
